A mysterious signal that has confounded scientists for years has been traced to a spot in the sky more than 3 billion light-years away. Almost a decade after the first fast radio burst (FRB) was discovered, an international team of researchers has pinpointed the origin of one such signal as a dwarf galaxy in the pentagon-shaped constellation Auriga. Scientists originally thought the signal -- sporadic bursts of radio waves -- was coming from within the Milky Way itself, or from our closest galactic neighbors, but a new report in the journal Nature confirms it emanates from a tiny galaxy 1% the mass of our own. "These radio flashes must have enormous amounts of energy to be visible from over 3 billion light-years away," Cornell University researcher Shami Chatterjee said in a statement. Ultra-rare galaxy could be 'one of a kind' Visible-light image of the dwarf galaxy from which signal FRB121102 is emanating. Distant signals Fast radio bursts were first discover...

Bayezid Hossain from southern Bangladesh suffers progeria, a rare disease which makes the body aged eight times than a normal. Believe it or not this old-looking guy is just 4 years old. Bayezid was born in a government maternity hospital in 2012. Sadly, his parents were devastated because doctors weren’t able to help him. His mother Tripti, 18, said “I was terrified to see him when he was born. He was just flesh and bones. He looked like an alien and it was heartbreaking for me. Doctors had no idea what to do, they said they had never seen such a baby. They warned us that there was nothing they could do.” Despite the kid’s condition, the family of three went home without receiving any support from the local government. What’s even worst is, they became the main target of gossip. Bayezid’s father Lovelu, 22, is a laborer who only earns Rs 5,000 (£50) a month. Despite being a laborer, he has already spent approximately Rs 4 Lakh (£4,000...

Nigeria corruption investigator Austin Okwor survives shooting

A leading anti-corruption investigator in Nigeria has survived being shot multiple times, officials say. Austin Okwor is reported to be part of a team investigating corruption within the judiciary. He is being treated in hospital for his wounds. The attack happened in Port Harcourt on Saturday night, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission said. Last year several judges were arrested on suspicion of corruption in a nationwide sting operation. Mr Okwor was surrounded by a gang who opened fire on him, Nigeria Bulletin reports. Economic and Financial Crimes Commission spokesman Wilson Uwujaren said Mr Okwor had received threatening text messages in recent months. "This incident underlines the hazards which operatives of the commission are daily exposed to in the discharge of their duties," Mr Uwujaren said in a statement. In April President Buhari's office ordered an investigation after the head of the national intelligence agency was suspended over corruption al...
